Collaborative Research Opportunities in Neutron Science
ORNL Neutron Sciences is pleased to announce the call for proposals for collaborative research visits and faculty sabbaticals.
Application Forms and Instructions Are Now Available.
We anticipate that funding will be available for short- and long-term research placements for university-based postdoctoral fellows and graduate students to pursue research using neutron scattering at ORNL. This will allow students, postdoctoral fellows, and their academic mentors to participate in exciting world-leading research in collaboration with ORNL scientific staff, using unique state-of-the-art facilities at the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) and the High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR). Additional benefits include the chance to meet and interact with many other leading scientists conducting research at ORNL. Areas of research are open to any branch of materials-based research that can use neutron scattering, including biology, chemistry, engineering, and physics.
Visiting Student Thesis Research Program
Short- and long-term opportunities are available for university-based graduate students to pursue thesis-related research in collaboration with ORNL staff.
Prospective Graduate Students: Possibilities also exist for graduate students from selected institutions to pursue full-time thesis research at ORNL under the supervision of ORNL research staff. More information may be available from your university department’s graduate coordinator, or inquire at nsvisit@ornl.gov.
Visiting Postdoctoral Research Program
Short- and long-term opportunities are available for university-based postdoctoral fellows to engage in collaborative research and development using neutron scattering as a primary research tool, mainly on the HFIR and SNS instruments. Collaboration can be with Neutron Sciences staff as well as other ORNL researchers.
Prospective Postdoctoral Fellows: Recent or new PhD graduates interested in postdoctoral employment at ORNL can find a full listing of available positions through the ORNL Postdoctoral Research Associates Program and/or the Postmaster’s Research Participation Program.
Faculty Research Sabbaticals
The Faculty Research Sabbaticals Program offers summer and academic year sabbatical programs that will draw the best scientific talent from institutions all over the world to interact with the resident staff and user communities.
