X-Ray Laboratory

The SNS X-Ray Laboratory, located in the SNS Central Laboratory and Office Building (CLO), has a suite of X-ray instruments availablefor powder and single-crystal diffraction, small-angle x-ray scattering, and crystal alignment. This includes: Laue machine, Small-Angle X-Ray Scattering (SAXS) instrument, 2-circle and 4-circle X-Ray Diffractometers (XRDs), and a Single Crystal Diffractometer. Analysis on the X-Ray equipment is often used in addition to neutron analysis. They are complementary analyses and allow the users to get as much data as possible about their samples during their time at ORNL. Access to these instruments is granted to users and staff with approved neutron or CNMS (Center for Nanophase Materials Sciences) user proposals.
