Graeme Murdoch has over 35 years of progressive experience working in technical and management capacities in a particle accelerator and fusion engineering environment.  He was appointed Director of the Second Target Station Project Office effective February 1, 2022.

He held various management roles within ORNL including serving as the STS project manager from 2019, playing a crucial role in the early success of the project.  Graeme originally joined ORNL in 2001 to work on the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS).  While at the Laboratory, and prior to his STS Project roles, Graeme has been director of the Neutron Technologies Division at SNS with responsibility for several key technical systems including the mercury target and instrument beamline engineering and director of the US ITER Non-Nuclear Systems Division with responsibility for the central solenoid magnet and plasma-facing vacuum and diagnostic systems. 

Prior to joining ORNL, Murdoch worked as a Senior Project Engineer at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, England on the ISIS Spallation Neutron Source specializing in managing design, procurement, installation and commissioning of engineering equipment and system upgrades to the accelerator and target systems. 

Murdoch graduated in mechanical engineering from the University of West England, Bristol, England. He is a fellow of the United Kingdom Institute of Mechanical Engineers and a registered Chartered Professional Engineer with the United Kingdom Engineering Council.
