Matthew G Tucker

Diffraction Section Head

Matt Tucker received his PhD from the University of Kent in Canterbury, UK. He joined Oak Ridge National Laboratory in 2016 and is currently the Diffraction Section Head in the Neutron Scattering Division. Prior to this he had been a Research Scientist in the Crystallography Group at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in the UK since 2005.

Matt's research interests focus on developing and using total scattering techniques for the study of disordered crystalline materials. Highlights include studies of negative thermal expansion, pressure induced amorphization and colossal thermal expansion. He has successfully led the development of a Reverse Monte Carlo program (RMCProfile), specifically designed for the analysis of total scattering data of polycrystalline materials. This program suite is freely available for download (www.rmcprofile.org) and is used by scientists around the world.
