Jiao Lin

CUPI2D Instrument Scientist

Dr. Jiao Lin is the lead instrument scientist for the CUPI2D neutron imaging instrument at the Second Target Station (STS) of the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS). He received a B.Sc. degree in physics from Peking University in 1996 and a Ph.D. in materials science from CalTech in 2004. He was a Computational Scientist at the Caltech Center for Advanced Computing Research (2004-2015), and the Neutron Scattering Division at Oak Ridge National Lab (2015-2019). Before heading back to ORNL in late 2020, he worked a stint as the Principal Computational Scientist at the Satelytics Inc., leading research and development to bring scalable machine learning algorithms to remote sensing. Jiao developed the MCViNE neutron ray-tracing simulation framework for simulation of modern, complex neutron sample/sample environments and detector systems. His research interests include the application of super resolution techniques.
