Working with ORNL’s Neutron Sources
A team of experienced scientific and technical staff are available to assist industrial partners in planning and conducting their experiments. Scientific staff first work with prospective industrial partners to understand what they hope their experiment will achieve. An experiment plan will be developed with the industry partner that details the neutron scattering technique and required measurements, including needed technical support and estimated amount of beamtime.
ORNL offers multiple modes of access to meet the needs of each industrial partner.
After the most appropriate mode of access has been determined, a User Agreement will be completed between ORNL and the industrial partner. The User Agreement, which can cover non-proprietary or proprietary research, establishes the general terms and conditions, including disposition of intellectual property, for research at any of ORNL’s user facilities. Examples of Non-Proprietary and Proprietary research agreements.
A user that has an existing agreement with ORNL should contact the User Office to find out if a new agreement is needed. An agreement has to be in place before an experiment can proceed.
Finally, the scientific staff works with the industrial partner to conduct the experiment and assist with data analysis, if needed.
