Karon Foster is a building services coordinator at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), handling requests for the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) office buildings. She is known among SNS staff as the “go-to” problem solver for any facility issues. Foster has worked at ORNL for 15 years.
We have to have someone to take care of the facilities. We could have people here just doing science, but if they have issues in their rooms and stuff like that, it makes their jobs difficult. So, you need a go-between person to try to help them figure out what to do to take care of issues.”
“If there’s a problem that arises, or there’s a situation, it pleases me to know that I can help them so that they don’t lose a lot of time. For instance, a scientist recently came to me, and they had an issue that they needed fixed. I was able to get the right people there to help fix that issue, which allowed the scientist to spend their time doing what they do best.”
